Imagine No Imagine

No apologies to John Lennon, but nothing to kill or die for sounds rather boring.

I mean, at the heart of any story is conflict, whether internal or external. I’m not advocating war or bloodshed, I’m just quoting Lennon’s own postmodernist view, as spoken by George S. Patton:

“If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking.”

Would Lennon defend his cause strongly enough to die for it knowingly?

Does George S. Patton want everyone to think the same as he does?

Is there no end to postmodernists’ self-contradiction?

I think I feel a parody coming on…

Next post expected, ooh, let’s say tomorrow.

I love your parodies. I can feel a compulsion to visit your site coming on! Great site - keep your thoughts coming even if they are the same as George S Patton’s ;-)

Hey whipper snapper - what’s all this anti post modernism - surely modernism is only a relative term. I mean, when we were defending Gaul against the Romans, the post modernists said we should live side by side and neither of us had the right to dictate our beliefs to the other. Strangely, the Romans never took up that view. Pax Romani

Yup I like it. You think about things in a cool interlectual way.
    Groovy!!! LOL

John Lennon’s song is obviously a work written from the perspective of an unbeliever. He premise was basically that religion was the cause of all the evils in the world and until it was done away with…we’d never have any peace.

This may have been thinking for himself…but it wasn’t original and obviously it wasn’t true.

I do agree with George Patton though. (Not that I am a Patton fan in any way) I just think you have to take his comment in the spirit with which it was put. “If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking.” There are so many different ideas in the world, if a person thinks for themself…they’re bound to come up with some contradictory views that don’t jive with teh rest of said “group”.

I think he just meant, that if everyone is thinking alike…somebody isn’t thinking for themself. Instead they’re suffering themselves to be led by someone elses ideas. ( I mean…where would we be if we never thoguht for ourself?)If that is typical post-moderism…I’m not necessarily against it. (but obviously there is more to it than that) I think the main problem comes…not from thinking for youself…but in not comparing your thoughts with ultimate truth…the Bible. That was Lennons main error. Besides, we ought to have a good reason to desire change…other than just condeming mainstream practices so that we can feel original. Hey…if it ain’t broke…don’t try to fix it!

    “Imagine there’s no Heaven
    It’s easy if you try…”

Actually, I can think of few things harder for me than to imagine that there is no peaceful goal for mankind than the assurance of an eternal rest beyond the life we now live.

    “No hell below us
    Above us only sky …”

Universal salvation without repentance seems to me rather like a chess game with no winner, or perhaps no gameboard at all…the whole reasoning for the set-up is skewered.

    “Imagine all the people
    Living for today ”

Well, that’s why we have the Serial Killer running around Phoenix, shooting at random. He’s living for the thrill of today with no thought of remorse or justice in the hereafter.

    “Imagine there’s no countries
    It isn’t hard to do”

Well, that’d make the World Cup kind of confusing, wouldn’t it?

“Nothing to kill or die for”

Personally, I’d fight pretty hard for a good slab of beef ribs with an ear of corn and a dish of ice cream, but then that’s just me

    “And no religion too”

If you mean liturgical ritual for the sake of ceremony and not a relationship with God, then I agree, but I don’t think that’s your whole thinking here

    “Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace”

    That’s Heaven, John

“You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one”

I think we all want a life beyond this one filled with joy and peace, but my dream is made a reality through the Word.

“I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one”

I would say contrariwise that you might see our faith in its pure unadulterated form. I wish that you would have joined us.

    “Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can”

    Well, yes I can. I’m on a teacher’s salary

“No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world”

I am in agreement, but John, if you had read the Bible and saw the clear picture of Jesus, you’d see that this is the Christian’s joy, of bringing food of all kinds to the peoples of the world
